About

Sher is an emerging artist and designer of Finnish heritage, currently lecturing at RMIT University in the Architecture, Art and Design faculty.

Mostly she enjoys painting large scale canvases. Her recent series depict abstracted images of native flora, seed pods and seeds and portraits. Sher is currently working on numerous private commissions.

Painting is her anchor and catharsis in life.

Upcoming events:

September 2018 Selected Semi-finalist in the Douglas Moran National Portrait prize

April 2018
Her works were recently exhibited at Monsalvat Gallery, Eltham, Victoria, Australia in conjunction with woodworker and craftsman Hamish Hill. Sher’s paintings, which depicted seeds and pods of the same timbers complimented Hamish’s detailed and eclectic woodwork created from Australian timbers.

Zooming in on the subject, Sher likes to convey her fascination with repetition and pattern that emanates from an interest in the systemic nature of cycles and reoccurrences in the universe.

Sher is also interested in portraiture and recently has had the privilege of painting two prominent artists. Ray Honisett, Australia's premier historical aviation artist, sports artist and well known stamp designer and a large scale portrait of Australian icon, 103 year old Eileen Kramer, dancer, choreographer and performer who is still actively working.

Sher's mother, Gwen Mason, painted prolifically throughout her life and had a strong influence on her work. Gwen's most significant work is a large, eight-panel mural which she painted in her 91st year. Her steady hand and attention to fine detail, utilised brush strokes that touched the canvas like a small embroidery needle. Sher's website is dedicated to Gwen.
